An excerpt from Robert Frost’s poem, The Road Less Taken, describes Rich Reid’s career path towards becoming a world-class outdoor photographer.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

While studying at UC Santa Barbara, Rich worked as a photo editor for the newspaper and yearbook. This full photography immersion was the catalyst for him to pursue a full time professional photography career after a short stint in the corporate world.

After graduating, Rich ventured to Istanbul, Turkey to work on an internship and then after a European tour, he found himself bound to a corporate job back in Santa Barbara, California.

Oh how he missed seeing the world one frame at a time.

Layoffs were announced and Rich was off on the road less travel in Fiji and New Zealand with his camera. Twenty years later, he has continued his immersion into photography and part-time jobs as a camping guide, tour business owner, custom printer, custom framer and an instructor at Brooks Institute of Photography.

While not on assignment, Rich can be found exploring the beaches and mountains with his wife Gloria and daughter Riley near their Ojai, California home.
